    PLAYDOAH I

  • 1 CUP FLOUR
  • 1/2 CUP SALT
  • 2 TABLESPOONS VEGETABLE OIL
  • 1 TEASPOON ALUM
  • ____________________________________________
  • 1/2 CUP WATER
  • 1 OR 2 DROPS FOOD COLORING
  • MIX flour, salt, oil, alum together
  • ADD gradually, water mixed with food coloring
  • ____________________________________
  • The Playdoah should be the consistency of bread dough
  • PLAYDOAH II (COOKED)

  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ________________________________________
  • MIX flour, salt, cream of tartar in saucepan
  • MIX water,food coloring and oil together
  • ADD water mixture to flour mixture
  • COOK over medium HEAT for 5 minutes stirring constantly(mixture will separate from pan and form a ball)
  • TURN ball out onto board
  • KNEAD with additional flour until you get a soft ball
  • PAPIER MACHE I

  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 cups water, (divided)
  • 10 sheets of newspaper
  • ___________________________________
  • TEAR newspaper into strips 3/4-1 in wide 6- 10 in long
  • WHISK flour and 1 cup water together till smooth
  • ADD remaining 2 cups water and mix till smooth
  • BOIL in saucepan for 1 minute stirring constantly
  • COOL completely
  • ___________________________________
  • DIP strips in mixture
  • SCRAPE off excess
  • APPLY to project
  • PAPIER MACHE II

  • 10 sheets newspaper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon white glue
  • ___________________________________
  • TEAR newspaper into strips 3/4- 1 in wide and 6- 10 inches long
  • PUREE 1/3 of newspaper strips in blender with water(you may need to add more water or newspaper)
  • STRAIN pureed mixture thru sieve
  • MIX with glue
  • ________________________________________
  • DIP strips in pulp
  • REMOVE excess pulp
  • APPLY to project
  • CRYSTAL GARDEN (make sure your parents say this is ok to try)

  • 3 or 4 charcoal briquets
  • 1 tablespoon ammonia
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons laundry bluing
  • food coloring ( a few drops)
  • __________________________________
  • PLACE charcoal in shallow pan (pie tins work well)
  • MIX other ingredients together
  • POUR over briquets
  • ADD a few drops of different food coloring in a few places for some nice colored crystals
  • Within a day crystals will start to form and over the next few days it will take off with fluffy crystals
  • MOON MUD (like silly putty)

  • 1 cup white glue (elmer's works)
  • 1/2 cup sta-flo regular liquid starch
  • ___________________________________
  • MIX well
  • LET DRY a bit (it should be smooth and rubbery)
  • ADD a drop or 2 of food coloring and knead well
  • YAK ( similar to gak)

  • 1 teaspoon borax
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • ________________________________________
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 2 teaspoons white glue
  • ___________________________________
  • MIX borax and 1/2 cup warm water
  • MIX 2tsps water with 2 tsps glue
  • ADD 1 teaspoon of borax/water mixture
  • MIX and poke the blob for 3 - 5 minutes
  • ADD one drop of food coloring while kneading for color
  • STORE in an airtight container
  • HUMMINGBIRD NECTAR

  • 1/4 CUP SUGAR
  • 1 CUP WATER
  • RED FOOD COLORING
  • ___________________________________
  • MIX sugar and water in saucepan
  • BRING to boil and dissolve sugar in water
  • ADD 3 - 4 drops food coloring
  • COOL completely before filling feeder
  • SIDEWALK CHALK

  • 1 cup plaster of paris
  • 1/2 cup dry tempera paint
  • 1/2 cup water (more or less)
  • molds for forming shapes(rubber gloves work well if you fill only the fingers)
  • MIX all ingredients together
  • POUR into molds
  • SET overnight
  • REMOVE from molds
  • ENJOY
  • BUBBLES

  • 1 cup JOY dish detergent
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup white corn syrup
  • ___________________________________
  • COMBINE all ingredients in sealable container
  • SHAKE well
  • STORE in refridgerator and let sit for four hours
  • BRING to room temperature before using
  • REMOVE lid slowly
  • THE OLD RUBBER EGG TRICK

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 2 clear jars
  • some flouridated toothpaste
  • ___________________________________
  • COAT one egg lightly with toothpaste and place in jar
  • PLACE other egg in separate jar
  • POUR vinegar over eggs till submerged
  • COVER jars with plastic wrap
  • WATCH the eggs over the next three days the one coated with toothpaste will be protected The other will be rubbery where the calcium has been dissolved
